A Project Managers Toolbox: Lets Explore

October 19, 2008 – 11:53 pm

I have a bunch of things in my tool box: a cellphone, a skype recorder, my to do list and task list notifications sent to my phone, a shared calendar with my client, a web-based project communication management system, a chess board on my table, Anthony Robbins audiobook on leadership techniques and motivation and my bookmarks. As you can see, every project manager has some methodology implemented for themselves in order to be able to strengthen their communication skills. Thats one of the most important aspects of being a project manager. I record business meetings on the phone with my clients permission of course and review it and share it so that we have a reference point for changes throughout the project. My cellphone gives me notifications on when deadlines are coming up and when I need to send out the status reports to each client. My Shared calendar lets my client know when the milestones or delivery dates are for each part of the project and also sends them a notification so they cant say I didnt tell you. My chess board teaches me strategic thinking so that I can be a better negotiater when it comes to dealing with the project sponsor and the other steakholders involved in the project. My audio books teach me to motivate and persuade colleagues that are working on the project with me to do their best and meet the deadlines that I set for the project.

We will go indepth on each of these items so that you can understand why they are so important and why we are benefical for a project to be executed properly.
